There is nothing* more frustrating than finding an interesting forum, signing up, and then having your account languish unapproved while you wander around wanting desperately to say things. ARRGH.

*Not true, there are many things.

For her fifth birthday, my daughter got a set of My Little Pony - The Movie bedsheets. (She got a lot of MLP stuff, mostly because it's the only thing we're sure she likes; most things she claims to enjoy because her brother does, but actually gets bored and wanders away very quickly.) The duvet cover is festooned with ponies - Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity, Pinkie Pie.

Some of you may have noticed the weirdness here. Yeah, aren't there six main ponies?

For some reason, Applejack hasn't made it onto the bedclothes. It's not like there wasn't space - there's dozens of the five ponies all over them. But no Applejack. Which is... weird?

My theory is that because her stereotypical personality is so specifically American (unlike 'posh and likes clothes' or 'shy and likes animals'), kids in the UK don't tend to be a fan, so they've cut her out. But it still seems pretty odd. Maybe she dies in the movie? [Ducks] I kid, I kid...

The first proper fandom moment my children had came sometime this spring, when the TV told them that Numberblocks (a show teaching them to count and do basic arithmetic) would be introducing five NEW characters ('six' to 'ten', since I know you're dying to find out). They were incredibly excited - so much so that we shuffled that weekend around so that they could be in front of the TV to watch the first episodes for 6 (Saturday) and 7 (Sunday).

I think that counts as a success.
